Overview
Firm administrators now have the ability to add a default charge description to your LEDES codesets, which automatically appends this description to any new charge when using the LEDES code. This article explains how to manage the default charge description, edit codesets, and understand the behavior of the charge description field.
Accessing and Editing LEDES Codesets
Navigate to LEDES Codesets:
Click on your name in the top right corner.
In the pop up navigation, click on "Firm Settings".
Go to Settings > LEDES Codesets.
Editing Codesets:
System Codesets: For LEDES standard codesets, you may only:
Add or edit the "Default Charge Description" field.
Toggle the Active status (except for Timekeeper LEDES codes and System Sets — these cannot be toggled active or inactive).
Custom Codesets: If you’ve created custom codesets, you may have additional fields that are editable.
Adding a Default Charge Description:
In the codeset editor, enter your desired "Default Charge Description" for any code. When adding new charges, this description will be appended to the end of any charge description when the code is selected.
Create New Charges To Populate Default Descriptions
Populating Descriptions:
When you add a charge and select a code from the LEDES dropdown, the "Default Charge Description" for that code will automatically populate at the end of the charge’s description field.
NOTE: If you switch codes in the dropdown, the "Default Charge Description" for the new code will append to the description without removing the previous code’s description.
Editing Descriptions:
If you do not want the "Default Charge Description" for a particular code to be appended automatically, simply leave the "Default Charge Description" field blank for the LEDES code.
Important Notes on Description Behavior
The description appending behavior is designed to be additive. It does not remove the previous code’s description when you select a new code; instead, it adds the new description at the end of the current description.
This approach ensures descriptions remain consistent without tracking changes in the description field.
By following these guidelines, you can manage default charge description effectively and tailor it to your workflow.
