How to add Matters

There are several ways to open a new Matter.

One way is through the Quick Add menu by selecting Matter.

You can also create a matter via the Matters module on the left navigation panel.

Quick Add Method

  • Click the plus sign next to your name in the navigation bar.

  • Select "Matter" from the dropdown menu.

  • A new window will open for entering the Matter information.

  • This method is ideal for quick entries while working in other areas of the system.

Matters List Page Method

  • Navigate to the Matters page from the left-hand menu.

  • Click the "Add Matter" button.

  • New Contact window will appear for you to fill out the details.

Some fields are optional, while others are required. Required fields are indicated by a red bar next to the field name.

The following fields are required when creating a matter:

  • Client

  • Matter Name

  • Originator (who brought the matter into the firm)

  • Manager (who is responsible for the matter)

  • Status

  • Matter Type

  • Billable Type

Role group is a field where you will assign which members will be working the matter and the billing rates for those employees.

Additional Information is where firm administrators can set up custom fields on the matter that may be important for the case or billing. Once all required and optional details have been entered, select Save. The system will then redirect the user to the Matter page.

Required Fields

• Client: Search and select from the dropdown.

• Matter Name: Enter the name of the matter.

• Matter Originator: Specify who brought the matter to the firm.

• Matter Manager: Identify the person responsible for the matter.

• Matter Type: Select from the dropdown.

• Status: Choose the current status of the matter.

• Billing Type: Indicate the billing type.

Optional Fields

  • Matter Number: Auto-generates or enter a custom number.

  • Description: Provide a brief description of the matter.

  • Subtype: Specify the subtype if applicable.

  • Jurisdiction: This field appears based on the matter type.

  • Billing Cycle: Enter billing details.

  • Role Group: Assign a custom list of staff and their rates.

  • Tags: Use tags to filter matters.

  • Billing Notes: Add any relevant billing notes.

  • Leeds Options: If applicable, include leeds billing options.

  • Custom Fields: Fill in any fields set up by your firm administrator.

Saving the Matter

• After entering the required and optional details, click ‘Save’.

• The system will redirect you to the Matter Details page.

• Here, you can view and manage everything related to your new matter.
